Blogs and Blog Readers

Blogs and Blog Readers

I had never heard of Feed Readers before starting my assignment for one of my graduate classes. Thankfully, I read an article by Zapier that explained what they were, and why they are used.

From the article, I learned that Feed Readers are tools that display content from different websites in one single platform. Feed Readers save you the hassle of clicking through multiple websites to find the content you’re looking for. The article contained 10 Free Feed Readers that they recommend using.

I explored each Feed Reader to see which one I liked the most. I enjoyed the social media and “Pinterest” like aspect of Bloglovin’, but ultimately decided on Feedly. I thought Feedly was the easiest-to-use Feed Reader of them all. I liked that the layout of the page had a simple, but modern look with large text and vibrant colors. While navigating through it, I noticed that you could sort your subscriptions into folders, which make a user’s account more organized and efficient. This Feed Reader allows you to search by topics such as Tech, Business, Politics, and more. Feedly allows users to subscribe up to 100 blogs, unlike some other Feed Readers that only allow up to 64. The Feed Reader can be accessed through a mobile device (iOS or Andriod) or on a computer.

Below are 5 different websites that I decided to follow on Feedly that I believe will be useful as a librarian or educator. Click the link on each title to explore each website.

·      Educational Technology provides resources, suggestions, and strategies on incorporating technology into the classroom. The articles contain interesting and useful information on integrating technology effectively into student lessons.

·      The Daring Librarian provides fun and interactive ideas to bring to the library to make learning fun. She also offers book and technology reviews.

·      Teen Librarian Toolbox, created by the School Library Journal, offers resources, information, book reviews, and professional development for teen librarians.

·      Kirkus Reviews contain reviews on books that are fair and reliable. Librarians are able to use Kirkus Reviews to discover books to add to their library collection.

·      Book Riot provides book recommendations on all genres, tips, and book news. Subscribing to Book Riot is a great way for librarians to stay up to date with new books to add to their library collection.
